On-Farm Drought Infrastructure Grants: Supporting Farmers Through Dry Seasons

Drought is a significant challenge for farmers, impacting productivity and long-term sustainability. The On-Farm Drought Infrastructure Grant provides a crucial opportunity for Victorian farmers to invest in water security, feed management, and infrastructure improvements, ensuring greater resilience during dry periods. By enhancing farm infrastructure, producers can better manage drought conditions while boosting overall efficiency and profitability.

The Victorian Government is offering On-Farm Drought Infrastructure Grants to help primary producers improve drought preparedness and resilience. Eligible businesses can receive up to $5,000 in funding (excluding GST) on a dollar-for-dollar co-contribution basis to support critical infrastructure improvements.

Who Can Apply?

Farmers in eligible local government areas (LGAs) who:
✅ Own, share, or lease a primary production business
✅ Hold an active ABN
✅ Earn at least 50% of their gross income or $75,000 per year from farming

What Can Be Funded?

Grants cover infrastructure improvements that enhance drought resilience, including:

  • Stock Containment Areas (SCAs)
  • Reticulated water systems (pumps, piping, tanks, and troughs)
  • Irrigation upgrades
  • Water storage improvements (dams, bores, silos)
  • Fencing for improved land management
  • Shelter belts for erosion control
  • Wastewater and effluent management

What Isn’t Covered?

  • Fodder or water carting costs
  • Farm vehicles, machinery, or livestock purchases
  • Employee wages and training expenses
  • Standard operating costs (e.g., electricity, gas, rates)

How to Apply?

Step 1: Check eligibility and gather required documents
Step 2: Submit an application online via Rural Finance
Step 3: Await ‘in-principle’ approval
Step 4: Complete the infrastructure project within 3 months
Step 5: Submit payment evidence for reimbursement

To assist farmers in completing their applications, PTP is available to provide guidance and support, ensuring a smooth process from start to finish.
